Game Day

Yesterday was an eventful day! We all had class, and I found my way to the tube all by myself and ended up running into a few of the girls from our study abroad at the underground station.

We definitely hit rush hour because we couldn't even board the first metro. People were literally packing onto the train like sardines and hovering over so that they could mold into the shape of the train when the doors closed on them. When the next train finally came we all got pushed on and I picked a nice corner away from the cluster of people and so that I could actually breathe without getting in anyones personal space.

We had a good class, listened to presentations, and then afterward I waited with Lauren and Lily for Brittany to get out of travel reporting. I found a bag of prawn crackers being sold in the lobby with other oriental treats and giddily bought a bag for myself to munch on. When Britt got out we decided to explore a few streets down for food and found a restaurant called Pain. It was delicious. There were jars of different kinds of spreads on the table for bread from chocolate, white chocolate, praline, cherry, strawberry, etc. I ordered a croissant with ham and gruyere cheese and gobbled up the whole thing.

Our whole group for study abroad then met at Hyde Park for group games! Everyone was dreading it at first, but being in the Journalism/Communications college how could we not show some competitive spirit during the games? We played pass the potatoe (only using our shoulders up or knees down), limbo (where Mary and I were the only ones left from our team), and water balloon toss (I was out in the second round). But needless to say we came through in second place! Go Ravenclaw!

Me, Lauren, Brittany, and Lily then walked around Hyde Park. We passed the Serpentine which is the little lake they have, and then we bought ice cream cones and walked through the park. We made our way to Oxford Street which was nearby and that is where all the big shopping takes place. Pigeons were everywhere and diving toward our heads, and of course I was freaking out because I hate birds. We found Primark which is the exact equivalent to Penny's (the cheap store in Dublin) and that place was packed! There were people everywhere and I had to stop myself from elbowing people because it was a stampede to get everywhere. When we left we went back through Hyde Park and a marathon ran right past us, there were people dressed up in all sorts of costumes: ginger bread men, airplane costumes, school girls, etc. It was so odd!

For dinner we had Oscar's, which has been me and Lauren's second time dining there and we happily told the waitress how much we love their restaurant and that we were avid customers now.

After dinner I passed out and took a really long nap until my friends got out of Avenue Q. We all met up and went to Picadilly Circus. Unfortunately, we took the right bus but the wrong direction and ended up on the other side of London. Luckily we flagged down the only cab on the street that had passed us. We were dropped off back at the dorm safely.

Today my ethics class is going to BBC, so that should be interesting! I can't wait to see production from a British standpoint. Tonight we are celebrating Isa's birthday and tomorrow morning I leave for Venice at 4:30 am! So I must pack, I'm so excited to see Italy for the first time!

My next post will most likely have to wait until Monday so that I can write about all my adventures then!

Pip Pip,
Leah
